It's a sport included in the Olympic program since the first winter games celebrated in 1924. Since then, the practice of this sport has been concentrated in those countries of the north where the weather is cold. As time passed by, and with the arrival of new technologies, ice skating began to expand to other regions and countries of wormer weather, establishing ice sports in a regular basis in countries like Mexico.
In Southamerica today, there are no Ice Hockey Federations registered and the records of the practice of this sport are very poor and appear in an isolated and sporadic fashion.
In the Republic of Argentina, we find records of the practice of this sport since the mid 70's, in the club "Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires".
It’s based on the belief that the people who have acquired the habit of a healthy sport practice and have developed the pleasure of playing ice hockey, will strive to sustain this practice and to bring it to other people, observing the "fair play" spirit and not allowing the establishment of competitiveness to destroy their friendship ties nor prevent them to experience the "pleasure of playing ice hockey".
To spread and to develop the practice of ice hockey in Argentina.
Our institution is the first to arise in response to the need of a group of amateur athletes in the search of a growth that would allow them to sustain and increase the amount of people practicing ice hockey. Understanding sport practice as a fundamental part in the comprehensive education of healthy and well-balanced people, our view for the year 2007 is to be able to offer the choice to practice this sport to the greater amount possible of children and young people.
